Read Psalm 1
Psalm 1 Blessed is the one
who does not walk in step with the wicked
or stand in the way that sinners take
or sit in the company of mockers,
2 but whose delight is in the law of the LORD,
and who meditates on his law day and night.
3 That person is like a tree planted by streams of water,
which yields its fruit in season
and whose leaf does not wither—
whatever they do prospers.
4 Not so the wicked!
They are like chaff
that the wind blows away.
5 Therefore the wicked will not stand in the judgment,
nor sinners in the assembly of the righteous.
6 For the LORD watches over the way of the righteous,
but the way of the wicked leads to destruction.
Today we reach day number five.
Five in the Bible is most often associated with the first five books of the Bible, namely Genesis, Exodus, Leviticus, Numbers and Deuteronomy. Or the books of Moses or the books of the law.
Our scripture reading today is all about meditating on God’s word. Psalm 1 calls us to meditate on the word of God day and night. Later in the Gospels, Jesus said he had not come to change anything from the law, but that he was fulfilling the law. Filling it out, putting flesh on it.
Have you ever read the Bible in a year? Will you in 2012?
Have you consciously tried to look at every passage you read looking for Jesus?
He is there, putting flesh on the very words of God.
Holy Spirit, help me find Jesus. As I read, study, digest, mull over and generally flick through your word would you show me Jesus. Turn my gaze to Jesus, may all that thrills my soul by Him and Him alone. Amen
