Remaining thankful…

thankfulness thanks thanksgiving prayer Jesus

Tuesday’s top ten thanks…

1 ) NHS – does an amazing job and has looked after two families close to us over the past weeks, as well as H this morning. Thankful for a health service that is free and accessible.

2 ) Friends – thankful for the many friends we have in our lives.

3 ) New Pupils – some days I just love teaching and especially when I get the opportunity to teach someone new. I still enjoy the first look of a pupil who realises they are actually playing the guitar.

4 ) Technology – this Sunday we were able to FaceTime with my parents in Derby. Great for the boys to keep in touch with their grandparents. I think they enjoyed it too…

5 ) Foodbank – great people doing an amazing work – if you live in Eastbourne please visit here. Alternatively you may like to visit the Trussell Trust who pioneer the work.

6 ) Winter Night Shelter – not only thankful for the work of the Eastbourne branch, but starting to hear great stories from around the country of similar projects that are up and running.

7 ) Life Group – Thankful for the family that we meet with once a week, to celebrate life, pray and learn to follow Jesus.

8 ) Church Leaders – Thankful for those who step up and follow God’s calling. Very grateful for their leading and their encouragement.

9 ) New Music – a few months ago a pupil gave me a iTunes voucher, which I got around to spending the other day. New music from Joe Bonamassa and Kenny Wayne Shepherd have become staples in my work soundtrack

10 ) Communion – this Sunday was our monthly reflection, remembering and responding to the cross. I am always thankful to spend time as a church celebrating the communion meal and all that it represents.

Now over to you, what are you thankful for today?

Grace and Peace,

Steve

Tuesday Thanks…

Hello all,

Hope you are well.

I have undertaken a new twitter rhythm (you can read more about it here) and Tuesday is thankfulness. This is inspired in part by the blogging on thankfulness by Sharon Roberts and Tuesday thanks on Becca Dean’s blog.

So, here just ten of my things to be thankful for…

1. Advent

Over the past few years I have grown more and more excited about Advent and this year I have been reading a prayer book entitled – “Come thou long expected Jesus” which uses some of the hymns of Charles Wesley and advent scriptures. Thankful for the great hymns and for Paul Wesley Chilcote for writing the book.

2. Life Group

Love being part of family and I love the group of peeps we do life with. On one level it is a sad day today as we say goodbye to one particular family as they follow God’s lead. But, we’re looking forward to blessing them. We are very thankful for their contribution, fellowship and friendship over the last few years.

3. Winter Night Shelter

The Eastbourne Winter Night Shelter starts on Thursday. Thankful that people have followed the Holy Spirit’s prompting and have started this project. May God over answer our prayers for this work.

4. Foodbank

Amazing project that has supported well over 600 people in Eastbourne so far, with an emergency three day food supply. Great people doing an amazing job.

5. Tree outside our house

I love our tree. Thankful for the spring, summer and autumn colours it has given us. I know its a bit weird but I do miss it during the winter.

6. Music

We love music in our house, if it is not on somewhere, someone (usually Mrs Blunders) will be singing. I love the creativity, the inspiration, the emotion and the call for a response that encompass music. I love that God designed these relatively few musical notes and then let us loose with them.

7. Big Bang Theory (TV Series)

I love this program, great end to a day! Thankful for humour.

8. Mentors

I have been thinking and thankful recently about those who have influenced and mentored us over the past few years. Mrs B and I are especially thankful for Dave and Sharon Roberts for their influence, encouragement and friendship.

9. Family

Love Mrs B and love my boys! Very thankful for them all!

10. Tea and Coffee

Both help the working day go down!

Hope you have a great day, may you stay thankful and if you haven’t already please join us on #3goodthings this evening on Twitter.

Be blessed,

Grace and Peace,

Steve

Father God, may we stay thankful this and every day. May we remember your blessings, your mercy and your grace. May we turn each thankful thought back into praise to you. In Jesus’ name. Amen

WWJT…

20110705-142920.jpg

Welcome once again,

Yesterday I stumbled across a post entitled “If Jesus was on twitter”. I’m sure it must have been done before, but it was a very interesting post that wondered what life would be like if you could tweet Jesus and get 140 character answers to the questions you have. Like what job should you apply for? Who should you take to the prom? What should I do today?

It did seem to me a little bit like a genie-Jesus, where you could rub Him and he would magically give you the answers. But, it did get me thinking, what would Jesus tweet

I went to the start of Jesus’ public mission in Luke 4 where he reads from Isaiah 61,

“The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because he has anointed me to proclaim good news to the poor. He has sent me to proclaim liberty to the captives and recovering of sight to the blind, to set at liberty those who are oppressed, to proclaim the year of the Lord’s favour.” (Luke 4:18-19 ESV)

The I thought about sermon on the mount in Matthew 5 where Jesus tells his followers the beatitudes;

“Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.

“Blessed are those who mourn, for they shall be comforted.

“Blessed are the meek, for they shall inherit the earth.

“Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they shall be satisfied.

“Blessed are the merciful, for they shall receive mercy.

“Blessed are the pure in heart, for they shall see God.

“Blessed are the peacemakers, for they shall be called sons of God.

“Blessed are those who are persecuted for righteousness’ sake, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.

“Blessed are you when others revile you and persecute you and utter all kinds of evil against you falsely on my account. Rejoice and be glad, for your reward is great in heaven, for so they persecuted the prophets who were before you. (Matt. 5:3-12 ESV)

Or when he sums up what it is to follow him, by loving God and loving others. I think Jesus’ tweets would come from these scriptures. They would be encouraging us to love God, asking us to stand firm, to endure, to receive his love, his grace, his peace.

To bless others, to build up and strengthen each other, to look to serve, to be Jesus to those we know and love.

They would remind us of his promises to us, reminding us that we are blessed, that His Holy Spirit is with us, that we can do great things through Him. To tell others of what he has done in our lives, to tell others of his grace, love, mercy and peace.

Here’s my thought;

My Spirit is upon you, because I have anointed you to proclaim good news to the poor. Bless them in my name! #thingsjesusmighttweet

So, over to you – what would Jesus tweet?

Also, what would life be like if we kept short 140 character conversations with Jesus in our everyday moments?

Have a think about it and drop me a comment.

Grace and peace,

Steve
